Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the overall trends and specific data points for the five activities. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the film club's dominance and the significant decline in amateur dramatics. However, the report could be improved by ensuring more precise data reporting. For instance, stating 'around 65 participant' is slightly vague, and there are minor inaccuracies in describing the trends, such as stating the film club 'declined in 2010 to 60' when the graph shows a more stable trend. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons between categories are more explicit rather than just listing data for each activity individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally clear, and you use some cohesive devices like 'Whereas', 'Additionally', and 'Meanwhile' to link information. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more balanced. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is functional, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to show contrast or similarity more naturally. Overall, the structure is easy to follow, but the flow between sentences occasionally feels disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'surged', and 'declined'. However, there are frequent errors in word form and collocation, such as 'Table tennis experience rapidly growth' (should be 'experienced rapid growth') and 'participant' used instead of the plural 'participants'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the data. To improve, focus on using the correct grammatical form of words and expanding your range of reporting verbs and adverbs to describe trends with more precision and variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'Film club stood at peak' (missing article) and 'number rise from 0' (should be 'rose'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are instances where sentence boundaries are unclear. The errors are frequent enough to be noticeable, but they rarely impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically pluralization and verb tense usage.
