Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered all categories (film club, martial arts, musical performances, amateur dramatics, and table tennis) and made relevant comparisons. However, the report lacks precision in describing the data points. For example, stating 'between 60 to 70 numbers' is vague when the graph shows specific values. Additionally, the description of 'table tennis' as having a 'dramatic ascend and dramatic the opposite' is inaccurate, as the graph shows a consistent upward trend. To reach a higher band, ensure that your data reporting is more precise and that your descriptions of trends strictly align with the visual evidence provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Moreover', 'Foremost', and 'Secondly' to structure your points. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as starting a paragraph with 'Foremost'. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth transitions, making the flow feel a bit disjointed. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is more fluid and less reliant on repetitive sentence starters.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey the main features of the graph, such as 'numerical data', 'steady', and 'dramatic decrease'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and phrasing, such as 'dramatic the opposite' and 'had a increment'. Some terms are used incorrectly, such as 'numbers' instead of 'participants' or 'levels'. The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of trend-related verbs and nouns, and focusing on correct collocations, will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the members of the film club always at the highest numbers' (missing verb), 'Musical performances starts participate' (subject-verb agreement and verb form errors), and 'had a increment' (article error). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable and occur frequently. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and the formation of verb phrases. Proofreading your work for these basic errors before finishing would be highly beneficial.
