Student answer (Band 8.0)

The line graph illustrates changes in the number of participants engaging in five different activities—Film club, Martial arts, Amateur dramatics, Table tennis, and Musical performances—at a social centre in Melbourne, Australia, over a 20-year period from 2000 to 2020.

Overall, Film club remained the most popular activity throughout the entire period, despite minor fluctuations. While participation in Table tennis and Musical performances experienced significant growth, Amateur dramatics saw a sharp and continuous decline.

Looking at the details, Film club started with approximately 64 participants in 2000. After dipping slightly to a low of 60 in 2010, it recovered and reached a peak of nearly 66 by 2020. In contrast, Amateur dramatics began with 26 participants, peaked slightly at 28 in 2005, and then dropped precipitously to finish at a low of just 6 in 2020.

Meanwhile, Table tennis demonstrated the most dramatic upward surge, rising steadily from 16 participants in 2000 to surpass multiple categories and reach 54 by the end of the period. Musical performances had zero participants in 2000 and 2005, but experienced steady growth thereafter, climbing to roughly 18 by 2020. Finally, Martial arts maintained a relatively stable trend, hovering between 30 and 40 participants throughout the two decades, starting and ending the period at approximately 36.
