Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all activities. You successfully identified the highest and lowest participants and noted key changes over time. However, the overview is somewhat weak; while you mention the maximum and minimum, it lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the overall growth or decline patterns. Additionally, some data points are slightly imprecise, such as stating 'below 10' for amateur dramatics without specifying the starting point or the final trend more clearly. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking differences or trends across the entire period rather than just listing extremes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a summary. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'After 2005', and 'Overall' to guide the reader. However, the paragraphing is slightly unbalanced, and the transition between the description of individual activities could be smoother. Some sentences feel like a list of data points rather than a cohesive narrative. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus, such as grouping activities by their growth or decline patterns.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'declined', and 'rose sharply'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'accounted at around 36' (should be 'accounted for') and 'reached at below 10' (should be 'reached just below 10'). The repetition of 'number of members' and 'count of participants' limits the sophistication of your writing. Incorporating more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' and improving your grasp of prepositional usage would significantly enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'fluctuations was noticed' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'the count of amateur dramatics' (missing capitalization). Additionally, some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'accounted at around 36'. You have a good grasp of basic structures, but to achieve a higher band, you need to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional phrases.
