Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for the film club, table tennis, martial arts, amateur dramatics, and musical performances. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that martial arts 'decreased' and 'none of the participants taken intrested', yet the graph shows it remaining relatively stable between 35-40%. Additionally, the overview is slightly confusing as it identifies the film club as the most popular but then makes contradictory statements about other activities. To improve, ensure that your summary of trends accurately reflects the visual data provided and that your overview clearly highlights the most significant overall patterns without including conflicting information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. For example, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. While you attempt to use linking words like 'while' and 'initially', the connection between sentences is often mechanical or unclear. The referencing is sometimes confusing, such as the sentence 'none of the participants taken intrested in this activity', which does not clearly relate to the data. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'The Graph illustrate gives information' (should be 'The graph illustrates') and 'none of the participants taken intrested'. The phrase 'calibrated in percentage' is also slightly unnatural in this context. While you are able to describe trends using words like 'increased' and 'decreased', the range of vocabulary is limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise reporting verbs and nouns, and ensure that your word choices are grammatically accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('The Graph illustrate'), incorrect verb forms ('none of the participants taken intrested'), and punctuation errors. Some sentences are fragmented or lack necessary articles, such as 'Musical performances are the least popular event it strated'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered fluent. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
