Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered all categories and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the contrast between the popularity of the film club and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the report could be improved by ensuring the data points are more precise. For example, describing the film club as 'notorious' is an inappropriate word choice, as it implies a negative reputation rather than high popularity. Additionally, ensure that all figures are accurately reported; while you captured the general movements, the analysis would benefit from a more balanced focus on the most significant changes rather than listing every minor fluctuation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Turning to', 'Identically', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate different categories of activities. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the overview and the first body paragraph could be more integrated. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner that is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary, including terms like 'elucidates', 'fluctuations', and 'depleted'. However, there are some significant issues with word choice and collocation. Using 'notorious' to describe a popular club is incorrect, as it carries a negative connotation. Similarly, 'indulged in' is not the most natural collocation for participating in activities. Phrases like 'sky high' are too informal for an Academic Task 1 report. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise, academic vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the highest count of participants were' (should be 'was'), 'near about same' (should be 'about the same'), and 'stood the same' (should be 'remained the same'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and more precise prepositional usage will help improve your accuracy.
