Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five categories. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the growth in musical performances and the stability of the film club. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, you state that musical performances started at 0% in 2005, but the graph shows the data starting in 2000. Additionally, the description of the film club's trend is slightly confusing, as you mention it 'topped the chart' but then repeat the same figures. To improve, ensure that the data points cited align precisely with the years provided on the x-axis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally clear, and you use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast,' 'while,' and 'after that.' However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'after that' to link sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within the final paragraph could be improved by grouping the activities more effectively rather than listing them in a way that feels slightly disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'surged,' 'fluctuated,' 'witnessed a sharp rise,' and 'considerably.' This allows for a clear description of the data. There are no significant spelling errors, and the vocabulary is generally appropriate for an academic report. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or vary your reporting verbs further to avoid repetition, as some phrases like 'over the period' are used quite frequently throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'after surging it declined' which is slightly awkward, and some punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary parentheses in the introduction. While most sentences are clear and error-free, the range of complex structures is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of subordinating conjunctions and ensuring that your sentence structure remains fluid and grammatically precise throughout the entire response.
