Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying trends for the five activities. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. While you correctly identify the film club as the highest participant group and note the trends for table tennis and musical performance, the description of the other activities is vague and lacks precision. For instance, referring to 'the above to activities' is confusing, and the data points mentioned (e.g., 'around 36') are not always clearly linked to the specific activity. To reach a higher band, ensure that all trends are clearly described with accurate data points and that comparisons between categories are more explicit throughout the report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'the above to activities' and 'the exact opposite case happens' are used to link ideas, but they do not always clearly refer back to the correct information. Additionally, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is somewhat abrupt. Improving the flow by using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Conversely') and ensuring that referencing is precise would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'verity' instead of 'variety', 'center' instead of 'centre') and awkward phrasing such as 'marked up by unique symbol' and 'little hike'. While you successfully use terms like 'fluctuating' and 'gradually', the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'a steady decline' or 'a significant upward trend', rather than relying on informal descriptions like 'little hike'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'each activities is', 'the martial arts participants is'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'The graph is plotted in the 2D plane with two axis'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and pluralisation errors to improve accuracy.
