Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the popularity of the Film club and the trends for other activities. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear overview of the data. While you mention specific figures, the comparisons are occasionally imprecise, such as stating the Film club remained the same in 2020 without clearly contrasting it against the other activities. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a distinct 'overview' paragraph that highlights the most significant trends or differences between the categories, rather than just listing data points in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'In contrast' and 'on the other hand' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. For instance, the transition between the second and third paragraphs feels abrupt. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data, rather than simply jumping from one activity to another.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic verbs like 'had', 'started', and 'increased'. There is also some awkward phrasing, such as 'second lead' and 'recorded with high number of participation', which are not natural collocations. To improve, incorporate more precise reporting verbs and nouns related to data trends, such as 'remained stable', 'fluctuated', or 'experienced a gradual rise'. Expanding your range of descriptive language will help you convey the information more professionally and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'participants were remained same', 'Musical performances had started in 2005 later in 2020 it had 16', and 'number risen to 18'. These errors involve tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and missing articles. To improve, focus on proofreading your work for basic sentence construction and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past data. Developing more control over complex sentences will also help elevate your score.
