Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the main features, but the data interpretation is frequently inaccurate. For instance, the claim that 'film club exceeds throughout the years' is vague, and the specific data points mentioned (e.g., '25% participation' in 2010) do not align with standard interpretations of such graphs. The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the reporting of trends is inconsistent. To improve, focus on identifying clear trends (e.g., upward, downward, or stable) and ensure that the data points cited are accurate reflections of the provided graph. The response lacks a clear, logical selection of key features, which hinders the overall task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as the frequent and awkward use of 'contrarily' and 'while' to connect unrelated ideas. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between different activities. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear flow. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often used incorrectly. Phrases like 'reside with 25% participation' and 'residing point' are unnatural and do not convey the intended meaning accurately. There is also a lack of precision in describing trends; for example, 'prominent downfall' and 'zero percent fall rate' are awkward collocations. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise vocabulary for describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decline', and ensure that words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'martial arts almost remains constant'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures. The attempt at complex sentences often results in run-on sentences or fragmented ideas, such as the final sentence of the conclusion. While there is a mix of simple and complex structures, the lack of control over these structures leads to frequent errors. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would help improve the accuracy of your writing.
