Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. While you have identified some main features, the analysis is incomplete. You have not provided data for all categories shown in the graph, such as the martial arts or musical instruments, and the description of the trends is too brief. To improve, you must ensure all data categories are mentioned and compared, and provide a more comprehensive overview of the trends over the entire 20-year period to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a full understanding of the data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into an introduction, an overview, and a single body paragraph. While there is a logical attempt to sequence the information, the lack of development makes the overall progression feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'whereas' and 'at first glance', but the limited length prevents the use of a wider range of linking words to connect ideas effectively. Paragraphing is present, but the body paragraph is underdeveloped. To improve, ensure each main trend is clearly separated and linked with appropriate transition signals to guide the reader through the data.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, with terms like 'participated', 'gradually', and 'initial years' being used correctly. However, the range is quite limited, and there is some repetition of basic structures. There are no significant spelling errors, but the lack of variety in descriptive language (e.g., using 'climbed' and 'dropped' is good, but more sophisticated synonyms for 'increase' or 'decrease' could be employed) limits the score. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'peaked'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'the the' (repetition) and 'attendees number' (incorrect word order/possessive usage). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable. The sentence structures are relatively straightforward, and there is a lack of more complex grammatical forms that would demonstrate higher proficiency. To improve, focus on proofreading to eliminate minor slips and attempt to vary sentence length and complexity by using relative clauses or passive voice where appropriate.
