Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features and trends of the graph. The overview clearly highlights the most popular activity (film club) and the most significant changes (table tennis and amateur dramatics). You have also made relevant comparisons, such as contrasting the growth of table tennis with the decline of amateur dramatics. However, the report could be improved by ensuring all data points are accurate; for instance, the starting point for amateur dramatics is 2005, but you did not mention the 2000 data point, which is a key feature of the graph. Overall, you have covered the requirements well and provided a clear summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by activity. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'At first glance', 'By contrast', and 'Moving further' to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different trends. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that the progression between sentences is more seamless and that referencing is consistently precise throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the trends accurately, using terms like 'upward trend', 'inclined sharply', 'plummeted', and 'marginally'. There is an awareness of style appropriate for an academic report. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'returning its original level' (should be 'returning to its original level') and 'the table tennis' (the article 'the' is unnecessary here). Expanding your range to include more precise collocations for describing data would further enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to follow. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'around at 65' (should be 'at around 65') and 'this inclined sharply' (a comma splice error; it should be a new sentence or joined with a conjunction). Despite these occasional errors, your control of grammar is generally good, and the meaning is never obscured. Focusing on punctuation and preposition usage will help you achieve a higher band.
