Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively covers all requirements of the task. You have identified the main trends and provided relevant data points to support your descriptions. The overview is clear and highlights the most significant features, such as the film club's dominance and the contrasting trends of other activities. You have made appropriate comparisons, such as noting the decline in amateur dramatics versus the growth in table tennis. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurate; for instance, stating that table tennis 'surged to over 50%' is slightly ambiguous in this context, as it is unclear if you mean a 50% increase or a specific value. Precision in reporting data is essential for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by activity. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In 2000', 'With regard to', and 'Subsequently' to link your sentences and paragraphs effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different categories of data. The flow is generally smooth, though some transitions could be more varied to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. Overall, the structure supports the reader's understanding of the information presented.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information clearly. You use topic-specific terms like 'downward trend', 'fluctuated', 'plummeted', and 'surged' appropriately. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'illustratres', 'amature', and 'remianed', which slightly detract from the professional tone. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items would help elevate the score. The word choice is generally accurate, but ensure you proofread carefully to avoid these minor mechanical errors, as they can impact the overall impression of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. Most of your sentences are clear and communicate the intended meaning without difficulty. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'represents by far the largest number' (should be 'represents by far the largest group') and 'albeit of significant fluctuations' (should be 'albeit with significant fluctuations'). These errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage. Your control of grammar is generally good, and you show an ability to handle complex information accurately.
