The line graph compares the number of contestants who participated in various activities at a social centre situated in Melbourne, Australia over the period of two decades from 2000 to 2020.

Overall, the film club remained the most popular activity throughout the given period. The table tennis experienced the most significant growth, whereas amateur dramatics witnessed a considerable decline.

At first glance, the attendees of the film club remained at the top and relatively stable over the period, around at 65. By contrast, the pattern for amateur dramatics was around 28 in 2005 which plummeted to about 5 in the final year.

Moving further, martial arts participation rose and fell marginally before returning its original level at approximately 38. Initially, there were no participants in the music performances, after that the number climbed gradually from 10 in 2010 to 15 in 2020.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response effectively covers all key features of the graph. You have provided a clear overview and selected relevant data points to support your comparisons, such as the growth in table tennis and the decline in amateur dramatics. The inclusion of specific figures adds precision to your report. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurately interpreted; for instance, the 'martial arts' description mentions returning to its 'original level,' but the graph shows it starting at 30 and ending at 30, which is accurate. The report is well-structured and addresses the prompt comprehensively, meeting all requirements for a successful task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group information effectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'By contrast,' 'Moving further,' and 'Initially' to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different trends. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the relationship between the different activities is clearly established. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to improve the flow between sentences. Overall, the structure is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'experienced the most significant growth,' 'plummeted,' and 'upward trend' are used effectively to describe the data. There are occasional minor inaccuracies, such as 'around at 65' (the 'at' is redundant) and 'returning its original level' (should be 'returning to its original level'). However, these errors do not impede communication. You have successfully used a mix of common and less common lexical items, which is appropriate for this task. Continued focus on collocations and preposition usage will help elevate your score further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The figure for table tennis players showed an upward trend which rose gradually...' and 'Initially, there were no participants... after that the number climbed...'. While there are some minor grammatical slips, such as the comma splice in the second paragraph ('...first three years, this inclined sharply'), the majority of your sentences are error-free. Your control over tense and subject-verb agreement is generally strong. To improve, ensure that you use punctuation correctly to connect independent clauses, avoiding run-on sentences or comma splices.
