Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the graph but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. While it identifies some data points, the selection of information is disjointed and lacks a logical progression. The description of trends is largely absent; instead, the writer lists isolated figures without explaining the movement of the lines over the 20-year period. Furthermore, the data interpretation is often confusing, such as the reference to '65 number in firm club' and the unclear comparison of figures in the final paragraph. To improve, you must focus on identifying the overall trends (e.g., which activities increased or decreased) rather than just listing individual numbers.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'Moving towards' and 'Eventually', which do not fit the context of describing a graph. The referencing is also unclear; for example, the phrase 'the respectively firm club' is grammatically incorrect and makes the relationship between the data points difficult to follow. The progression of ideas is hindered by these structural issues, making it difficult for the reader to track the information presented. Using a wider range of linking words and ensuring clear referencing would significantly improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and often inaccurate. There is a reliance on basic phrasing, and several word choices are inappropriate for an academic report, such as 'firm club' (likely referring to 'Film Club') and 'the difference Martial arts was more than 5'. The repetition of 'number of participants' and the awkward phrasing of data points suggest a lack of flexibility in expressing numerical information. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decline', and ensure that you use correct collocations when discussing data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response that impede communication. Basic errors include subject-verb agreement ('the numbers... have been demonstrated'), missing articles ('in firm club'), and incorrect sentence structure ('the difference Martial arts was more than 5 participants to Amateur dramatics'). The response relies almost entirely on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty or incomplete. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using articles correctly before nouns.
