Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and trends for all five categories. You successfully highlight the fluctuations in table tennis and amateur dramatics, as well as the relative stability of other categories. However, the overview is slightly hindered by minor inaccuracies in data interpretation, such as stating musical performances were at zero in 2005 when the graph shows a small value. Additionally, some data points are described with slight imprecision (e.g., 'shy of 13'). To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview clearly synthesizes the most significant trends rather than just listing them, and double-check the accuracy of the figures cited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group the data effectively. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'By contrast', and 'before following' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor mechanical errors in phrasing, such as 'At beginning of 2000' (missing article) and 'flim club' (spelling error). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different categories. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that referencing between sentences is consistently clear and accurate.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'plummeted', 'upward trajectory', and 'marginally stable'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'flim' instead of 'film' and 'performaces' instead of 'performances'. Additionally, some word choices are slightly awkward, such as 'participants activity' and 'at shy of 13'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on precise collocations and proofreading for spelling will help elevate your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('At beginning of 2000'), incorrect verb forms ('were remained stable'), and awkward prepositional usage ('at around 60'). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the report. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences will also help you achieve a higher band score in this criterion.
