Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to summarize the main features of the graph provided. However, the response is lacking in comprehensive coverage of all activities listed, notably omitting details on some activities altogether. The descriptions for the film club and martial arts are somewhat repetitive and could benefit from a clearer focus on trends, such as differences in participation without becoming overly detailed. Overall, while some key data points are mentioned, more complete coverage of all activities would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The coherence and cohesion in the response is fairly basic. The use of linking words and phrases to connect ideas is somewhat limited, making the flow of information feel disjointed. For instance, the transition between topics could be more cohesive to enhance readability. Additionally, the sentence structure is somewhat repetitive, impacting overall coherence. A clearer structure, such as grouping activities or trends together, could improve the logical flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource demonstrated in the response is limited. The student uses basic vocabulary like "performances," "activities," and "participants" without delving into more varied language that could enhance the description. Phrases like "number of participants" and "decreasing" are used repetitively. A broader range of vocabulary relating to analysis and comparisons would improve the impact of the report, as the current choices appear too simplistic for an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range and accuracy exhibited in the response show some effort, but there are notable errors that affect clarity. For example, phrases like "the area where actors and models etc performs" contain grammatical inaccuracies and awkward constructions. The use of singular and plural forms is not consistently accurate, as in "number of participants in film club is decreasing." Additionally, sentence structures often lack variety, with a reliance on simple structures, which could be improved by employing more complex grammatical forms. Overall, while the general idea is conveyed, errors impact the clarity of the communication.

Overall feedback

This response demonstrates an understanding of the task by attempting to summarize the graph. However, to enhance this writing, focus on providing a more balanced overview of all activities rather than detailed descriptions of only two. Improving coherence through better paragraph structuring and transitions between ideas will also aid in clarity. Expand your vocabulary by incorporating more varied and precise terms, and pay attention to grammatical accuracy, especially with subject-verb agreement and appropriate sentence structures. Regular practice can help you refine these skills.
