Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You covered all five categories and made relevant comparisons, such as noting the film club's popularity and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, some data points are slightly inaccurate or confusingly phrased, such as the description of table tennis growth and the amateur dramatics trend. To reach a higher band, ensure that your data reporting is precise and that you avoid vague descriptors like 'crucial growth' when describing numerical trends. Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'On the other hand', and 'Finally' to guide the reader through the information. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing and sentence flow, such as in the paragraph discussing table tennis and amateur dramatics, where the connection between the two ideas is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'gradual increase', and 'remained relatively stable'. However, there are some word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'most crucial growth' (instead of 'most significant growth') and 'It failed in 2005' (instead of 'It fell'). Additionally, there are minor errors in word form, such as 'It's participant rose' (should be 'Its participants rose'). To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and double-check your word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. Examples include 'make it the most popular' (should be 'making it'), 'This figure decrease slightly to at 60' (should be 'decreased slightly to 60'), and 'continued increased' (should be 'continued to increase'). There are also issues with prepositions and tense consistency. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to impact the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
