Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends for the various activities. You have successfully selected key features, such as the peak for film clubs and the decline in amateur dramatics. However, the overview is somewhat weak; while you mention the most 'demanding' activities in the conclusion, a more effective overview would be placed immediately after the introduction, highlighting the overall trends (e.g., the general growth in most activities versus the decline in others). Additionally, some data points are slightly vague, such as 'steeped down a little', which could be more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Whereas', and 'Furthermore' to transition between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some sentences feel slightly disjointed. The referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother. The concluding paragraph is a bit brief and could better synthesize the information rather than just repeating the highlights mentioned in the body paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'participants', 'enrolment', and 'fluctuations'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'steeped down' (which is not standard for describing graph trends; 'dipped' or 'declined' would be better) and 'most demanding activities' (which is slightly awkward in this context). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'illustrates number of contestants' (missing an article), 'during this 20 years of time period' (redundant and grammatically awkward), and 'in the Australia' (incorrect article usage). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor slips throughout. To improve, focus on article usage and ensuring that your sentence structures are consistently accurate when describing trends.
