Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified some main features, the reporting is inconsistent and lacks a clear overview of the trends. For instance, you mention the film club remained at 75% throughout the period, which is not supported by the typical nature of such graphs, and your description of the other activities is fragmented. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the overall trends and support your points with accurate data points from the graph. The lack of sufficient detail and the failure to meet the length requirement prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes misused, such as 'to begin with' and 'Furthermore', which do not effectively link the data points. Referencing is often unclear, particularly when discussing the activities. To improve, focus on grouping related information together—for example, grouping activities that increased versus those that decreased—and use a wider variety of linking words to create a smoother flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'number of activities' and 'proportion'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the meeting table tennis' and 'decline proportion activity'. Some terms are used incorrectly, which occasionally hinders the clarity of your report. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a downward trend', and ensure that you use these terms in the correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response that affect readability. These include subject-verb agreement issues ('the given line graph demonstrate', 'they was introduce'), tense inconsistencies ('amateur dramatic was decline'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage when describing past data. Proofreading for common errors like missing 's' on plural nouns and ensuring verbs are in the correct form will significantly improve your accuracy.
