Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You successfully identified the dominant activity (film club) and the significant growth of table tennis. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the main trends. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in data reporting, such as stating martial arts 'fluctuated' when the trend is relatively stable, and some data points are slightly imprecise. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed and that the overview highlights the most significant contrasts more sharply.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'meanwhile', 'however', and 'before' to link ideas. However, the progression within paragraphs is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the description of table tennis and amateur dramatics could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly repetitive. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'dominant', 'considerable rise', and 'peaking'. However, there are recurring errors in word form and pluralization, such as '15 participant' instead of '15 participants' and 'martial arts was being fluctuated' (incorrect passive voice usage). These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure consistent subject-verb agreement and pluralization when discussing numerical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and passive voice constructions, such as 'The line graph illustrate' (subject-verb agreement) and 'martial arts was being fluctuated' (incorrect tense). There are also minor punctuation issues. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that verb tenses are used consistently throughout the report.
