Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response effectively identifies the main trends and provides a clear overview. You successfully highlighted the key features, such as the popularity of the film club and the significant growth of table tennis. The data is accurately reported, and comparisons are made where relevant. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are fully integrated into the narrative flow rather than just listing figures. For instance, the description of musical performance could be more smoothly linked to the overall context of the centre's activities. Overall, you have covered all parts of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Meanwhile', 'By contrast', and 'before recovering' helps guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to group related information. However, some transitions between sentences could be more sophisticated to improve the flow. For example, the transition between the discussion of table tennis and amateur dramatics is slightly abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'dramatic fall', and 'considerably'. There is an attempt to use less common items, which adds variety. However, there are minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'amateur experienced a dramatic fall' (should be 'amateur dramatics') and 'lowest participants' (should be 'lowest number of participants'). These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the response from reaching the highest band. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would further enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'while musical performance rose considerably after being introduced in 2005'. While the majority of sentences are clear, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'musical performance introduced in 2005, with the lowest participants, while increased gradually'. This sentence lacks a main verb and is structurally awkward. Despite these occasional errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the punctuation is generally accurate. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement would help improve your score.
