Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the trends for film club, martial arts, and the dramatic shifts in amateur dramatics and table tennis. However, the reporting is often imprecise. For instance, stating 'below the 70 and 40' is vague, and the description of the musical performances is confusing, as the data shows they start in 2005, yet the text mentions 2010. The overview is present but lacks clarity in summarizing the overall trends. To improve, ensure that data points are cited accurately and that the overview highlights the most significant changes rather than listing individual fluctuations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical or misused, such as 'after a while during 2010'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which category is being discussed. The transition between the general overview and the specific details is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'subsequently', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile') would help create a smoother flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There is a reliance on basic descriptors like 'different results', 'dramatic variation', and 'climbed'. Some word choices are awkward or inaccurate, such as 'sectors' to describe activities or 'customers' instead of 'participants'. There are also minor issues with collocation. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'surged', or 'plummeted', and ensure that terms are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'a constant increased in individual', 'the Individuals were above the 60 and 30 customers', and 'the dramatic change occur'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for tense consistency and pluralization would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
