Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including trends and comparisons. You successfully identified the overall trend for each activity and highlighted the most significant changes. However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you included percentage signs (%) when the graph refers to the number of participants, not percentages. Additionally, the description of martial arts as showing a 'slightly fluctuation' is grammatically awkward and imprecise. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that you avoid adding units not present in the source material. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the main trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs grouped by activity. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast,' 'Moreover,' and 'before plunging to,' which help the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the transition between some sentences feels slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more balanced. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be linked more fluidly to avoid a list-like feel. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the trends, using terms like 'surged,' 'plunging,' and 'climbing drastically.' There are, however, some issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'slightly fluctuation' is incorrect; it should be 'slight fluctuation.' The inclusion of '%' when referring to raw numbers is a recurring lexical error that impacts precision. While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the inaccuracies in data representation and minor collocation errors suggest a level consistent with a band 6.5. Focusing on precise terminology for describing trends will help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Although table tennis experienced an upward trend, amateur dramatics experienced a fall.' While many sentences are error-free, there are occasional slips, such as 'After fiver years' (typo) and 'martial arts showed a slightly fluctuation' (adverb/adjective confusion). Punctuation is generally handled well, and your control of tense is consistent with the requirements of the task. To reach a higher band, aim for more varied complex structures and ensure that minor errors in word form are eliminated through careful proofreading.
