Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. While the introduction identifies the graph's purpose, the summary is extremely brief and lacks a detailed analysis of the data. Key features, such as the trends for all five activities over the 20-year period, are not adequately described or compared. The report is too fragmented to provide a clear overview or to highlight significant trends, such as the decline of the film club or the growth of musical performances. To improve, you must provide a more comprehensive analysis of the data points and ensure the response meets the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt at an overview, the lack of development makes it difficult to follow a clear structure. Cohesive devices are minimal, and the transition between the initial description and the data points is abrupt. To achieve a higher score, you need to organize your response into distinct paragraphs—an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group related data together—using a wider range of linking words to connect your sentences and ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, such as 'goes down' and 'went up'. There is a lack of variety in the language used to describe trends, which is essential for Task 1. Additionally, there are errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'occupied in the film club' and 'had it's member'. To improve, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary for describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decline', and ensure you are using correct collocations and possessive forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity, such as the misuse of 'it's' (should be 'its') and awkward sentence construction like 'The highest number of participants occupied in the film club'. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for higher band scores. To improve, focus on using a mix of simple and complex sentences, and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, tense consistency, and correct punctuation to ensure your writing is accurate and professional.
