Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given line graph represents the details of certain exercises which were performed by candidates in Melbourne, a city of Australia in a social center in the time period of 2000 to 2020.
Overall, what stands out most from the given data is that Film club had most of the preferences the whole time whereas Musical performance started getting attention a while later bit didn't get much recognition either way.
Firstly, the Film club was dominating right from beginning although in 2010 numbers might have dropped down a little, but it again got on track next year and at the end of the period it was the mostly preferred ventures. Secondly, Martial arts might have been fluctuating the whole time like it was inclining this year and in next year it was declining. The whole time it was around the same number but at the end of time it was same as it was on start.
Thirdly, Amateur dramatics was chosed moderately at first but after some the numbers start decreasing fast and at the of period it reached almost at the point of zero. Whereas, Table tennis was not good at start but after a while it got such a boost from public that it directly reached the number 60. Moreover, Musical performance got recognition 5 years later than others but wasn't much good either like it just got the lowest attention of all.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main trends for each activity. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and relies on informal language (e.g., 'not good at start', 'got such a boost'). While the overview is present, it lacks precision in describing the data points. The mention of 'numbers might have dropped' is speculative rather than analytical, as the graph provides clear data. To improve, focus on using specific figures from the graph to support your descriptions rather than vague qualitative assessments like 'not much good'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'at the of period' or 'at the end of time'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing structure is a bit repetitive, relying on 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly' to force structure rather than allowing the ideas to flow naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic verbs and adjectives (e.g., 'got', 'good', 'mostly preferred'). Some word choices are unnatural or incorrect in this context, such as 'ventures' to describe activities or 'chosed' (incorrect past participle of choose). To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'plummeted', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'bit didn't get' (should be 'but'), 'at the of period' (missing word), and 'chosed' (incorrect verb form). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing prepositions or articles.
