Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the decline in amateur dramatics and the general increase in other activities, the reporting of data is imprecise. For example, stating 'around 0-40 people' is too vague for an IELTS task, which requires accurate data extraction. Furthermore, the conclusion introduces a summary that is slightly contradictory to the body paragraphs, and the overall overview lacks a clear synthesis of the trends. To improve, ensure you select key data points (start, end, and significant fluctuations) and describe them with greater precision to provide a more comprehensive summary of the provided information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Although', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'the population of Film club has stagnant'. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Phrases like 'in dribs and drabs' are idiomatic but perhaps not the most appropriate choice for a formal academic report. You also struggle with word choice and collocation, such as using 'population' to refer to the number of participants in a club, and the incorrect usage of 'stagnant' as a verb. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a gradual increase', and ensure you use words in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For instance, 'it has went up' is grammatically incorrect (should be 'it has gone up'), and 'has stagnant' is an error in verb formation. Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. While your meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic verb tenses and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound before attempting more complex, varied constructions.
