Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, including the trends for the film club, table tennis, and musical performances. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the description of the film club's trend is slightly inaccurate, as it does not show a consistent upward trend throughout the entire period. Furthermore, the report lacks a clear comparison between all categories; while it mentions table tennis surpassing other activities, it fails to provide a comprehensive overview of the final standing of all activities in 2020. The overview is present but could be more precise in summarizing the key shifts in popularity over the two decades.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'while the participants number who took a part in' and 'but after it was dramatically increased' create awkward transitions. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the activities is disjointed. While there is a clear overall progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs, the lack of sophisticated linking words limits the flow of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. There is frequent repetition of phrases such as 'took a part in' and 'number of participants'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'famous activity in during period' and 'figure of participants'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there are noticeable errors in collocation and word formation that occasionally hinder the sophistication of the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles ('at particular social centre'), incorrect verb tenses ('were never experienced'), and awkward sentence construction ('the participants number who took a part in'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex grammatical structures.
