Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all key features of the graph, including the main trends for each activity. However, the overview is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear summary of the most significant changes. While you identify the trends, the description of the data is occasionally imprecise, such as stating amateur dramatics dropped to 'almost zero' without clearly referencing the end-point data. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most striking differences between the activities rather than just listing trends. The data selection is generally accurate, but the reporting could be more cohesive to better highlight the comparative aspects of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the use of 'Also' and 'Turning to' to start sentences. The logical flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'While there were decreased in amateur dramatics'. The referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used in the correct context would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuation', 'surged', and 'participants'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'trending at peak', 'dropped at 60', and 'the figure of participants'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your report. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Expanding your repertoire of reporting verbs and nouns related to trends will help you convey information more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'there were decreased' (should be 'there was a decrease'), 'musical performances were increased' (should be 'musical performances increased'), and 'in next decade' (missing article). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the data. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and passive versus active voice constructions. Increasing the number of error-free sentences will help you move into the higher band range.
