Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the highest and lowest points and noting trends. However, the overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the overall trends. The initial statement contains a factual error, stating the period is '2020' rather than '2000 to 2020'. While the key data points are mentioned, the description of the trends is somewhat repetitive and lacks analytical depth. To improve, ensure the overview highlights the most significant changes, such as the growth in table tennis versus the decline in amateur dramatics, rather than just listing individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes awkward, such as 'The next one is' and 'The other last one'. The progression of ideas is clear, but the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the text feel disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the 'remaining figures'. Improving the variety of transition signals would help the text flow more naturally and logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is a reliance on basic verbs like 'is', 'has', and 'climbed'. Phrases such as 'slowly slowly' are informal and repetitive. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'who has done their activities' and 'it is on a top'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise reporting verbs and nouns related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'experienced a significant increase', or 'a steady decline'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('they was having') and awkward phrasing ('the highest number of participants who has done their activities'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences being run-on or lacking proper structure. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and sentence construction would be highly beneficial.
