Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers all categories mentioned in the graph and provides an overview, though the reporting of data is inconsistent. You identify the film club as the most popular, but the description of trends is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, you mention 'musical performance member start music after the 2000' and 'after the three decades reached at the 15%', which is mathematically unclear and confusing given the 20-year timeframe. The use of 'percents' when the graph likely refers to raw numbers is a significant error in data interpretation. To improve, ensure you accurately describe the trends (e.g., rising, falling, or fluctuating) and use the correct units of measurement provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. Phrases like 'Firstly' and 'Secondly' are used, but the sentences following them often lack internal cohesion, making it difficult to track the comparisons. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'the other activities members increase and decrease by continues', which is grammatically broken and lacks a clear link to the previous sentence. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will help raise your score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'numbers of participants' and 'activities' throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'musical performance member start music' and 'stand from the 0 ratio'. The misuse of 'percents' instead of 'numbers' indicates a lack of precision. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'peaked', or 'experienced a gradual decline', and ensure that your terminology matches the data provided in the graph.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('film club have most famous activity'), tense usage ('member start music'), and sentence structure ('the other activities members increase and decrease by continues'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that tenses are used consistently when describing past data. Reducing the frequency of these errors is essential for achieving a higher band score.
