Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all five activities and provides a clear overview of the main trends. You have successfully identified the highest and lowest participants and noted the general stability or growth of the categories. However, the report could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the activities rather than describing them in isolation. For instance, noting that the film club remained the most popular throughout the period while musical performances consistently trailed behind would strengthen the analysis. The data points are generally accurate, though ensure that the overview captures the most significant trends rather than just listing individual data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs covering the specific data. The use of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In the beginning' helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. For example, in the final paragraph, the sentence structure regarding the martial arts data is a bit disjointed, which slightly disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'surged', 'fluctuated', and 'remained unchanged'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'Participants participating in' which is redundant, and 'by the end of the time', which is slightly unnatural. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and avoid repetitive phrasing. The range is adequate for the task, but more sophisticated synonyms for 'increased' or 'decreased' would demonstrate better control over lexical variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'the film club was 65 initially' (should be 'the number of participants in the film club was 65') and 'number of people participating varied' (missing an article or determiner). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are areas that require more attention. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for small errors like missing articles or pluralization will help improve your accuracy.
