Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you identify the main trends, the analysis is incomplete. The description of the data is fragmented, and the final paragraph is cut off abruptly, leaving the summary unfinished. You have identified some key features, such as the stability of martial arts and the growth in table tennis, but the lack of sufficient detail and the failure to complete the task prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you provide a comprehensive overview of all data points and verify that your response meets the length requirement to allow for full development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by the incomplete nature of the final section. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'However', and 'Firstly', the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical or awkward, such as 'One the other hand'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a concluding sentence or a fully developed final paragraph disrupts the overall progression of the response. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, complete focus will help create a more cohesive and professional structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'increased', 'declined', and 'same'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'major increased seen' instead of 'a major increase was seen' and 'ration' instead of 'rate' or 'figure'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant surge'. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and nouns will help you convey information more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'major increased seen in the table tennis' (missing article/verb), 'oppose seen in musical performances' (incorrect word choice), and 'amateur dramatics rate 26 in starting' (missing preposition/tense). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like missing 'to be' verbs or incorrect prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures will also help improve your score.
