Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the main trends and specific data points. You successfully identified the overall popularity of the film club and the contrasting trends of table tennis and amateur dramatics. However, the description of the martial arts trend is slightly inaccurate; you described it as having 'almost the same popularity' from 2000 to 2020, but the graph shows a clear decline from approximately 60 to 35 participants. Additionally, the overview could be more concise by focusing strictly on the most significant trends rather than listing individual activity movements. Overall, the task is well-addressed with a clear summary of the main features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'By comparison', and 'While', which help to guide the reader through the comparisons. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the general trends from the specific data analysis. The progression of ideas is clear, although the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be slightly smoother. The use of referencing is generally effective, ensuring that the reader can follow the data points mentioned.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately. Phrases like 'surged significantly', 'downward path', and 'maintained its reputation' are well-chosen and appropriate for a report. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'making its lowest enrollment' (which should be 'reaching its lowest enrollment') and 'got its height' (which is non-standard; 'reached its peak' would be better). Despite these minor issues, the vocabulary is varied enough to describe trends and comparisons effectively without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the use of subordinate clauses starting with 'While' or 'Whereas'. Most sentences are clear, though there are occasional grammatical slips. For example, 'increasing the number of students from 20 to 55, respectively' is slightly awkward as 'respectively' is used for two sets of data, not one. Another error is 'making its lowest enrollment at the end of the period', which lacks a clear subject-verb connection. However, these errors are infrequent and do not cause confusion, allowing for a good level of readability.
