Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You have provided an overview and supported your points with data. However, there are some inaccuracies in your reporting; for example, you state that the Film club remained constant, but the graph shows fluctuations. Additionally, you mention that Amateur dramatics increased from 2000 to 2005 and then decreased, but the data points for 2000 and 2005 are not clearly distinguished in your description. To improve, ensure that your data points are precise and that your summary accurately reflects the visual information provided in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on different trends. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'However', and 'In contrast' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For instance, the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the structure within the paragraphs could be more sophisticated to improve the overall progression of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main trends, using terms like 'increased significantly', 'remained constant', and 'decreased slightly'. However, there are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'amount of participants' (should be 'number of participants') and 'frequency of Martial arts' (which is imprecise). There are also some spelling errors, such as 'peroid' and 'drametically'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends and ensure accurate spelling and word usage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles (e.g., 'number of Amateur dramatics', 'the peak of 40') and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'table tennis have started'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing capital letters after periods and unnecessary commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall clarity of the writing. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, especially with articles and pluralisation, will help improve your score.
