Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, but there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you state that amateur dramatics had an 'exceptional decrement' to 5 in 2000, but the graph shows the data starting in 2000 at a higher point and ending lower. Additionally, the time frame mentioned in the introduction (2000-2010) contradicts the graph's actual range (2000-2020). While you attempt to identify trends like growth and fluctuation, the misinterpretation of the data points and the incorrect time period significantly hinder the accuracy of the report. To improve, ensure you carefully cross-reference the axes and data points before writing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'In contrast to this' and 'In addition to this' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between activities feels abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using linking words more naturally to connect ideas rather than just starting sentences with them, and ensure that the progression of information is logical throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of imprecise word choice and incorrect terminology. Phrases like 'exceptional decrement' and 'nearly 20 contestant' are unnatural. You also use 'oscillate' and 'fluctuate' correctly, which shows an attempt to use a wider range of vocabulary. However, the repetition of basic verbs like 'show' and 'had' limits the sophistication of the writing. To improve, focus on using more precise reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'experienced a decline' instead of 'had shown fall', and ensure correct word forms are used.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently omit articles (e.g., 'in 2000', 'in 2005') and struggle with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency (e.g., 'martial fluctuate', 'it show exceptional decrement'). Some sentences are grammatically awkward, such as 'musical performance started at 2005 shows drastic growth'. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the general message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for tense consistency would be highly beneficial.
