Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all the main features of the graph, including the trends for each activity. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing data points rather than synthesising information effectively. There is a lack of a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends, such as the overall growth in table tennis versus the relative stability of the film club. To reach a higher band, you should group information more logically and provide a concise summary of the main trends in the introduction or as a separate paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is repetitive. You rely heavily on listing data for each category sequentially. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Now taking in consideration' and 'From this', they are often used in a mechanical or slightly unnatural way. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the amateur dramatics section where the description of the trend is confusing. Improving the use of linking words to show contrast and comparison would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You frequently repeat words like 'participants', 'number', and 'year'. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'aqctivities', 'furthur', and 'perfomances'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and you struggle to use more sophisticated collocations to describe trends (e.g., using 'incline' as a noun instead of 'increase' or 'rise'). Expanding your range of synonyms for movement and change would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'Given graph tells us' (missing article), 'These attendee were gradually decreased' (incorrect passive voice and pluralization), and 'the participants at starting was about 17' (subject-verb agreement). There are also issues with prepositions and tense consistency. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct article usage will help improve your accuracy.
