Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Furthermore, the content is underdeveloped. While you identify some trends, the analysis is incomplete; for instance, you mention the film club had the largest group but provide no data to support this. The description of the table tennis group is vague, and the report lacks a clear summary of the main features or significant comparisons. To improve, ensure you cover all categories shown in the graph and provide specific data points to support your observations, ensuring the response is sufficiently detailed to meet the length requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. The introduction is followed by an incomplete sentence, and the paragraphing is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; for example, the transition between the general overview and the specific details is abrupt. The paragraph regarding the table tennis group and musical performances feels like a list of isolated observations rather than a cohesive report. To improve, use linking words such as 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to connect your sentences and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'numbers', 'activities', and 'groups'. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'least muber' (which is incomplete) and 'candidates' to describe club members, which is not the most appropriate term in this context. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a steady increase'. Avoid repeating the same structures and try to use more precise terminology.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The least muber' (incomplete sentence) and 'The figures rose up higher from 2010 by almost having 50 above members'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. There are also punctuation issues, such as the lack of spaces after commas in '2000,2005,2010,2015 and 2020'. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and practice using a variety of complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions.
