Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the graph, but the information provided is frequently inaccurate. For example, the student claims the Film club started at 65 participants and ended at the same point, which does not align with the visual data. Furthermore, the description of trends is confusing, and the data points mentioned are often incorrect or mislabeled. While the response covers all categories, the lack of accuracy in reporting the data significantly hinders the task achievement. To improve, ensure that you carefully read the axes and plot points before writing, and focus on clearly identifying the most significant trends rather than listing individual data points that may be misread.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by unclear sentence structures and confusing transitions. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as 'Looking for the details' or 'Following, Medium performers area'. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the relationships between the data points are not clearly established. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'subsequently', 'meanwhile') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'considerable highest performance' and 'modest performance of the decade'. The student struggles with precise terminology for describing trends, often relying on basic descriptors. There are also errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'Table tennis tennis shown'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant increase', and ensure that you use these terms in the correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Musical performance is started'), tense usage (e.g., 'it reduce to'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary articles and prepositions to be grammatically sound. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing past data, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms.
