Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the overall trends and specific data points. You successfully identified the most popular activity (Film club) and the least popular at the end of the period (Amateur dramatics). However, there are some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, you mentioned Musical performances started with 'no people at all', whereas the graph shows a starting point of approximately 5. Additionally, the description of the Amateur dramatics trend is slightly confusing regarding the timeline. To improve, ensure that data points are read precisely and that the overview clearly highlights the most significant trends without needing to list every minor fluctuation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Similarly', and 'Overall' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions between sentences. For example, the transition between the discussion of Martial arts and Musical performances in the third paragraph is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be strengthened by using a wider variety of linking words to show relationships between the data points more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'plateaued', 'fluctuation', and 'upward trend'. However, there are some word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'Marital arts' (likely a typo for Martial arts), 'numbers stated to rise' (should be 'started'), and 'outraced' (which is not the most natural choice for describing a graph trend; 'surpassed' or 'overtook' would be better). While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'were participated' (passive voice error), 'the numbers stated to rise', and 'being a popular activity in social center' (missing article 'the'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that passive constructions are used accurately.
