Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the main features of the graph, but it fails to accurately report the data. The descriptions of the trends are often confusing, such as the mention of '65,35' for film club and martial arts, which does not clearly reflect the graph's values. Furthermore, the overview is somewhat vague and contains inaccuracies regarding the trends of the activities. To improve, you must focus on identifying the most significant trends—such as the steady growth of table tennis versus the decline of amateur dramatics—and support these with accurate data points from the graph. Ensure that your overview highlights the most striking differences rather than just listing activities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. For example, the transition 'Then after table tennis had...' is disjointed and makes the flow of information difficult to follow. While some cohesive devices like 'whereas' and 'finally' are used, they are often applied in a way that does not effectively link the ideas. To achieve a higher score, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother narrative.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'dramatically increases' (should be 'increased' for past tense) and 'suddenly fall' (should be 'fell'). Additionally, the phrasing 'period of stability' is used correctly, but other descriptions like 'small change has done' are unnatural. To improve, try to use more precise verbs for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'surged', or 'plummeted', and ensure you are using the correct word forms (e.g., nouns vs. verbs) to describe the data accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('musical performance both are dramatically increases'), tense consistency (mixing present and past), and sentence structure ('In 2000, flim club and martial arts had nearly 65,35 participants going through the next two decades fluctuation is happend'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalisation. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent when describing past data. Proofreading for simple errors like 'happend' (happened) will also significantly improve your score.
