Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for each activity. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the film club's dominance and the decline of amateur dramatics. However, the overview could be more analytical; while you mention the film club, a more comprehensive summary would highlight the overall contrast between the growing activities (table tennis, musical performance) and the declining ones. You have included relevant data points to support your descriptions, which is a strength. To reach a higher band, ensure that comparisons between categories are more explicit throughout the body paragraphs rather than just listing trends individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that group the activities effectively. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'throughout', and 'before', which help link your points. However, some transitions could be more sophisticated to improve the flow between sentences. For instance, the transition between the discussion of the film club and martial arts is a bit abrupt. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the information is presented in a coherent manner that guides the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe trends, using terms like 'drastic increase', 'plummeting', and 'minor fluctuations'. This allows for some precision in your reporting. There are occasional minor inaccuracies, such as '50 participant' (should be plural 'participants') and 'increasing after' (which is slightly vague). While you use some less common items, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than highly sophisticated. To improve, try to incorporate more varied collocations for describing trends, such as 'a marginal rise' or 'a significant downturn', to enhance the academic tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'The table tennis activity experienced an upward trend in the first five years, remained considerably steady for the next five, before climbing steadily to 50 participants in 2020.' This shows good control. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as the missing plural in '50 participant' and the slightly awkward phrasing 'increasing after'. However, these errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The punctuation is generally accurate, and the sentence variety is sufficient to maintain interest throughout the report.
