Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. The overview is clear and identifies the main upward and downward trends. However, the reporting of data is sometimes inaccurate or confusing. For instance, stating that 'no candidate liked the musical performance in 2000' is a reasonable interpretation, but the description of the film club and martial arts as 'stucked at same numbers' is vague and fails to accurately describe the final data points. While the main features are selected, the lack of precision in reporting the figures prevents a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'Looking from an overall perspective', 'To commence with', and 'Following by' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions are awkward or grammatically incorrect, such as 'Following by' and the misuse of 'Therefore' in the middle of a sentence. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the mechanical nature of the linking words occasionally hinders the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts to use descriptive terms like 'dramatically', 'steadily', and 'fluctuations'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'candidates' instead of 'participants', 'amateurs dramatics' instead of 'amateur dramatics', and the non-standard verb form 'stucked'. These errors do not impede communication, but they demonstrate a limited control over more precise academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('it grows steadily'), incorrect preposition usage ('in initial year'), and awkward phrasing ('15 participants were like table tennis'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas and capitalization errors. While the meaning remains understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar limits the score to the 5.0–5.5 range.
