Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response effectively covers all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the film club's consistent popularity and the significant growth of table tennis. The overview provides a clear summary of the key features, and the data is accurately selected and reported throughout the body paragraphs. Comparisons are made appropriately, such as contrasting the decline in amateur dramatics with the rise in table tennis. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview is more distinct and perhaps more comprehensive in capturing the overall 'big picture' of all five categories rather than focusing on just three.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that group information by activity type. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'By comparison', and 'Finally' are used effectively to guide the reader through the data. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different trends. The progression of ideas is clear throughout the text. To improve further, ensure that the transition between the overview and the first body paragraph is slightly smoother, and avoid minor punctuation errors that occasionally disrupt the flow of the sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'declined steadily', and 'increasingly popular'. There are some minor errors, such as 'an significant growth' (should be 'a significant growth') and 'participations' (should be 'participation'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating a slightly wider variety of collocations and more sophisticated reporting verbs would elevate the response. The spelling of 'melborune' is a minor slip that should be corrected.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are clear and error-free, though there are some grammatical slips, such as 'The line graphs illustrates' (subject-verb agreement error) and the missing article in 'at social center'. Punctuation is generally handled well, although there are some inconsistent spaces before commas. The control of grammar is good, and the errors present do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, ensure consistent subject-verb agreement and pay closer attention to article usage.
