Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully identifies the main trends and provides a clear overview of the data. You have covered all categories (film club, martial arts, amateur dramatics, table tennis, and musical performances) and made relevant comparisons. The key features, such as the sharp decline in amateur dramatics and the growth in table tennis, are highlighted effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview paragraph is more distinct and clearly synthesises the overall trends rather than just listing them. The data points are generally accurate, though ensure that the distinction between the start and end points is always clearly contrasted to provide a more analytical summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organised, with each paragraph focusing on specific activities. The progression of ideas is clear, and you have used a variety of cohesive devices such as 'however', 'while', and 'but' to link sentences and clauses. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction/overview from the detailed body paragraphs. To improve, ensure that the transition between sentences is less mechanical; sometimes the structure feels a bit repetitive (e.g., starting several sentences with 'The [activity] members were...'). Using a wider range of referencing or substitution would help the flow feel more natural and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'steady', 'slight decline', 'sharp increment', and 'peaked'. This allows for clear communication of the data. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'showed increment' (should be 'showed an increase') and 'gain their peak' (should be 'reached their peak'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing. Incorporating more sophisticated synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would also enhance the lexical variety and demonstrate a higher level of control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('in year 2000' should be 'in the year 2000') and prepositions ('reaching at about' should be 'reaching about'). There are also some minor issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralisation. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to article usage and ensure that complex sentences are constructed with greater precision to reduce the frequency of these minor slips.
