Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task and identifies key trends for each activity. However, the reporting of data is occasionally inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating the Film club 'marginally showed by 65 participants' is unclear, and the description of the Amateur dramatics drop as 'by 10' does not align well with the graph's visual data. While the main features are highlighted, the analysis lacks precision in comparing the activities effectively. To improve, ensure that data points are described with more clarity and that comparisons between categories are more explicit rather than just listing them individually.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for specific activities, and an overview. Cohesive devices such as 'In 2000', 'While', 'From 2005 to 2010', and 'Overall' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Table tennis showed up' and 'Musical performances showed up'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the internal structure of the body paragraphs could be improved by grouping related trends more effectively rather than treating each activity in isolation.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There is some repetition of basic verbs like 'started', 'showed', and 'increased'. Some word choices are unnatural or imprecise, such as 'competitors of varied activities' (participants in activities is better) and 'showed up' (which is informal). The use of 'substantially grew' is a good attempt at collocation, but overall, the vocabulary remains at a functional level. To reach a higher band, incorporate more varied reporting verbs and precise nouns related to data trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'Film club was the most popular activity started with 65 participants' (missing relative pronoun 'which started') and 'zero member' (should be plural 'members'). The phrase 'marginally showed by 65 participants' is grammatically confusing. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional usage would significantly improve the accuracy.
