Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task and identifies key trends for each activity. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, focusing on listing data points rather than synthesising information. For example, the description of the Film club is slightly confusing, stating it 'gradually decreased' but then 'marginally showed by 65', which is unclear. While the main features are highlighted, the comparison between categories could be more sophisticated. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant trends, such as the dramatic growth of Table tennis compared to the decline of others.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for specific data, and an overview. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In 2000', 'While', and 'Overall', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are repetitive or slightly awkward, such as 'Table tennis showed up' and 'Musical performances showed up'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the internal structure of the body paragraphs could be improved to ensure smoother flow between the data points mentioned.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks precision and variety. Phrases like 'showed up' and 'showed by' are used repeatedly and are not ideal for describing graph trends. There are some inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'competitors of varied activities' (participants in activities) and 'stopped at the same level' (remained stable). To reach a higher band, you should use more precise terminology for trends, such as 'plateaued', 'surged', or 'experienced a downward trend'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'started with 65 participants and gradually decreased... but by the end of the period marginally showed by 65 participants' (the verb usage is unclear here). There are also issues with prepositions and tense consistency, such as 'in the beginning of the class' instead of 'at the beginning'. Despite these errors, the communication is not significantly impeded.
