Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for each activity. You successfully identified the most popular activity and noted the significant growth in table tennis. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, you list the data points for each category individually rather than grouping them to make more insightful comparisons. To reach a higher band, focus on highlighting the most significant trends and contrasts, such as the inverse relationship between the decline of some activities and the rise of others, rather than detailing every minor fluctuation for each category separately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs for the data, and an overview. The progression of ideas is generally clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'started with' and 'by the end of the period'. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the transition between the body paragraphs and the overview could be smoother to better link the summary to the specific data points mentioned earlier.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. You use some good descriptive terms like 'fluctuated', 'dramatically', and 'substantially'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'competitors of various activities' (participants is more appropriate for a social centre) and 'showed up with' (which is too informal). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations related to data trends, such as 'experienced a steady decline' or 'reached a peak'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Film club was the most popular activity starting with 65 participants and gradually decreased' (missing subject/pronoun) and 'Musical performances started with zero members in 2000 to 2005' (preposition usage). There are also minor issues with tense consistency and article usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would help elevate your score.
