Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the graph, including the trends for all five activities. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the popularity of the Film club and the significant growth of Table tennis. However, the analysis is slightly mechanical in places. For example, stating that Amateur dramatics 'dropped dramatically by 10' is a bit contradictory, as 10 is a relatively small numerical change. To reach a higher band, ensure that your descriptions of trends (e.g., 'dramatically', 'substantially') accurately reflect the scale of the data provided in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for specific activities, and an overview. The use of cohesive devices like 'While', 'On the other hand', and 'Finally' helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the transition between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes a bit repetitive, and the referencing could be smoother. For instance, the phrase 'they stopped at the same level' is slightly ambiguous. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear pronoun references would enhance the flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'fluctuated', 'marginally recovered', and 'modestly increased'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'showed up with 15 contestants' and 'the beginning of the class', which sound slightly unnatural in an academic report context. To improve, focus on using more precise reporting verbs and nouns related to data analysis, such as 'commenced', 'figures', or 'participation levels', rather than informal phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'the number of participants of various activities' (should be 'in'), and 'ended with some members' (which is vague). There are also minor punctuation and preposition errors throughout. To achieve a higher band, aim for more error-free complex sentences and ensure that your subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are consistently accurate.
