Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is inconsistent and lacks depth. While you identify the general trends for the film club and amateur dramatics, the description of the data is fragmented and repetitive. You mention specific figures for 2000 and 2010, but the reporting is often inaccurate or confusing, such as stating 'participants of musical performance were 0' and then later describing an increase. Furthermore, the summary lacks a clear comparison between the categories, and some data points are omitted or described vaguely. To improve, ensure you group data logically and provide a more precise overview of the trends across the entire period rather than listing isolated figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The progression of ideas is disjointed, particularly in the third and fourth paragraphs where data points are presented in a list-like fashion without effective linking. While you use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Moreover', they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different activities. To improve, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices to link sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use the phrase 'number of participants of' which makes the writing sound unnatural and monotonous. There is little attempt to use a range of synonyms or more sophisticated vocabulary to describe trends (e.g., instead of 'increased year by year', use 'witnessed a steady rise' or 'gradual growth'). Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'ratio of number of participants', which does not accurately describe the data shown in the graph. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and nouns related to data analysis will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'number of participants... were' instead of 'was') and awkward phrasing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. The frequent repetition of basic structures limits the range of grammar demonstrated. To reach a higher band, focus on varying your sentence structure and ensuring subject-verb agreement, as well as refining your use of articles and prepositions to improve overall accuracy.
